Skill, dedication, and fearlessness – as one of the most demanding sports out there, it takes a certain level of sacrifice to make a name for yourself in motocross. RJ Hampshire has proven, from a young age, that he has what it takes. Starting at the age of 10, RJ developed a lifelong passion for Motocross that turned into a successful professional career.
No stranger to the injuries that come with the territory of his sport, RJ considered working with a sports medicine physician and realized it would benefit both his health and improve his performance to do so. That’s when he started working with Dr. Bain and the sports medicine team at B3 Medical on injury treatment, prevention, and therapies that would maximize his athletic performance.
Local Roots
A Florida native, RJ Hampshire brings some excitement to the small neighborhood of Hudson, Florida. Starting in high school as a prospective baseball recruit, RJ began to embrace his remarkable athletic skills through motocross. He decided to dedicate all his time, energy, and physical ability to go pro by enrolling in online school and embracing his passion.
In an interview with the Tampa Bay Times, RJ revealed that he’d already suffered an extensive list of injuries, from broken wrists to a lacerated liver and a punctured kidney. He was only 17 years old, but, he pushed forward and pursued his dreams even harder.
Moving Up
That same year, he found himself winning the 2013 Monster Energy Cup Amateur All-Stars Champion title at the Monster Cup in Las Vegas, making a name for himself in the Motocross. In 2014, RJ signed with GEICO Honda as an amateur, for which he competed for 5 years and won the 2014 Nicky Hayden AMA Horizon Award before making his pro debut at Unadilla, New York.
Going Pro
RJ’s time with GEICO Honda was one filled with growth, learning, and success. During his pro career, he has 2 wins and 4 podium finishes. In his final season with the team, he finished 4th overall in both the Monster Energy AMA Supercross 250SX West Region and the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship.
Starting in 2020, RJ will be competing alongside the Rockstar Energy Husqvarna team in a 2-year contract. Although an emotional transition, both RJ and the Rockstar team are excited about what is to come. According to an interview with RacerX Online, Rockstar team manager, Bobby Hewitt, expressed his excitement about working with RJ to RacerX. “He is an experienced rider with great potential and we expect a bright future with him and the Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing Team,” explained Hewitt.
Personal Life
Out of all of these wins, RJ is most proud of his title as a father to his newborn daughter, Ivy. Happily married to his wife, Ashlee, RJ currently resides in Clermont. He enjoys practicing in Dade City, focusing on his diet, and preparing for Supercross this upcoming season.
